29th April          RYA Adult Dinghy Start Racing (Day 1)

Assumed knowledge: Minimum Level 2 Dinghy Sailing standard
Course Content: All the skills required to enjoy club racing, including how to maximise boat speed and how to outwit your opponents. 
Ability After Course: Able to take part in club racing in good conditions (depending on experience)
Cost:

FSC Sailing Members £75                  Non Members £125

12th/13th May       RYA Adult Dinghy Level 1 and 2 Sailing

Assumed Knowledge:  None/knowledge to Level 1 standard   
Course Content:

Level 1 – How to sail in all directions, including an awareness of launching and recovery.

Level 2 -  Rigging, launching, sailing in all directions.  Capsize and essential safety background recovery

Ability After Course:

Level 1 – Able to sail in light winds under supervision.

Level 2 – Able to sail and make decisions in good conditions.

26th May                  RYA Adult Dinghy Start Racing (Day 2)

Assumed knowledge: Minimum Level 2 Dinghy Sailing standard
Course Content: All the skills required to enjoy club racing, including how to maximise boat speed and how to outwit your opponents. 
Ability After Course: Able to take part in club racing in good conditions (depending on experience)

26th/27th May            RYA Power Boat Level 1 & 2    

Assumed Knowledge: None.  Minimum age 12. Candidates under the age of 16 will be issued an endorsed certificate.
Course Content: All you need to know for self-sufficient powerboating at a basic level.  Course includes launching, mooring, anchoring and recovery, plus all the boat driving skills required for basic competence in a powerboat.
Ability After Course: Self-sufficient powerboating in the right conditions: aware of own limitations and those of craft.
Cost:

9th/10th June                RYA Youth Sailing Stages 1, 2 , 3

Minimum Pre-course Experience:

Stage 1 - None.  Stage 2 - Stage 1 Stage 3 – Stages 1 & 2  

Assumed Knowledge:

Stage 1 -  None.

Stage 2 – Basic knowledge and steering ability

Stage 3 – Up to and including Stage 2

Course Content:

Stages 1/2  - Basic sailing skills, ropework, collision avoidance, launching and recovery. Stage 3 – Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory.

Ability After Course:  

Stage 1 – Can steer and understand basic principles.  Stage 2 – Can tack and control boat speed.  Understands basic principles. Stage 3 – Can launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions  

Cost:  FSC Cadet Members £90

7th/8th July                    RYA Safety Boat      

Minimum Pre-course Experience: 

Competent to Level 2 Powerboat
Assumed Knowledge: Minimum age 16.  Basic understanding of sailing boats.
Course Content:  Boat handling, rescue techniques for sailing dinghies, windsurfers and canoes, and tows.
Ability After Course: Able to provide safety cover to a range of craft, particularly sailing or windsurfing.
Cost:

23rd/27th July                  Family Week    RYA Youth Start Sailing Stages 1, 2 , 3 and  Sailing Red                                                          

Minimum Pre-course Experience:

Stage 1 - None. 

Stage 2 - Stage 1

Stage 3 – Stages 1 & 2

Sailing Red – Up and including Stage 3

Assumed Knowledge:

Stage 1 -  None.

Stage 2 – Basic knowledge and steering ability

Stage 3 – Up to and including Stage 2

Red Sailing – Up to and including Stage 3

Course Content:

Stages 1/2  - Basic sailing skills, ropework, collision avoidance, launching and recovery.

Stage 3 – Rigging, launching and recovery, sailing techniques, capsize recovery, sailing theory

Red Sailing – Five essentials, spinnakers introduction, tack & gybe in stronger winds, use of anchor

Ability After Course:  

Stage 1 – Can steer and understand basic principles

Stage 2 – Can tack and control boat speed.  Understands basic principles

Stage 3 – Can launch and sail a dinghy around a triangle in moderate conditions

Course numbers will be constrained by the number of instructors and availability of equipment, but as a general rule numbers will be limited to a maximum of 6 for sailing courses (except for Family Week the maximum will be 18).  For Power Boat Courses the maximum will be 6 (3 per rib).
