Welcome to the Cadet Page
Join us on Friday nights during the summer or Saturdays for some informal sessions, race training and when you feel you are ready, you can join us on a Sunday for some racing. Many courses for cadets are available to teach you to sail, and/or improve your skills.

If it is too windy to sail on a Friday, still come down, we can go body boarding, play pool, play table football or just relax.
Below is a Review of 2010
A busy 2010 at Felpham Sailing Club
Felpham Sailing Clubs diary for 2010 has been full and fun packed, outlined are some of the key events that have taken place that have involved both sailing club members and the public from the surrounding area.
In May FSC held its annual Club Open, with a fleet of 15 Blaze’s and 8 Vago’s from other clubs taking part, with strong representation from FSC in both classes, the weather for the weekend was ideal. The Blaze fleet was hotly contested and was being used by some as a warm up to the Blaze Nationals to be held at FSC in 2011.
Forthcoming weekends saw a series of RYA Start Sailing and Racing courses being run, these were all managed by Roger Belton, with help from a number of RYA qualified assistant instructors, that include both cadets and adults. Through this training program we have been to introduce 20 adults to sailing and racing, at FSC, with some now competing in club racing on Wednesday and Sundays and Open events.
Always of interest and needed within the club are Power Boat and Safety crews to this end a series of Level 1 and 2 Power Boat and Safety boat courses have been run, one included a trip down to the river Arun. The groups trained included adults and cadets as the club looks to strengthen its duty teams and the skill levels of all members within the club.
These skills were seriously put to the test later in the season for the Solo Nationals held in August in some extreme sea conditions, FSC is a popular venue for the Solo’s and this year we had 80 boats sailing two races per day from Sunday through to Friday.
During the Solo week the RNLI carried out a rescue demonstration, this year the RNLI decided to simulate a ferry sinking and so 25 cadets plus some brave adults were plunged into the sea off the sailing club. The demonstration was watched by over 200 locals and club members, a collection for the RNLI raised over £600.
At the end of July FSC’s youth regatta took place, this year saw 18 cadets complete their RYA stages 1 to 3, there with a further 30 cadets taking part in the annual Youth regatta, with the fleet split into a gold and silver fleet. The conditions for both the training and racing were tough, with winds gusting over F5 and large waves, although as is typical of our weather on the Sunday the wind dropped to nothing at all.
The Cadet regatta is supported by the Friday Fun sailing night held every Friday from May to October, this year we have seen up to 25 boats and 50 cadets on the water, the last session was held on the 1st October, this saw 20 cadets take to the rough seas for surfing and body boarding.
The climax of the year for the cadets was the successful defence of the West Sussex Schools Youth Regatta team award held this year at Chichester Yacht Club, FSC entered 24 boats manned by 34 cadets, the event saw some great individual results and strong performances from both new and the more experienced cadets, great fun was had by all, a huge thank you to the parents at FSC who helped with transportation of boats and equipment to CYC.
Like all clubs FSC runs on the goodwill of its members, a big thank you goes out to all those members who have helped on and off the water especially those during the Solo Nationals and Youth Regatta.
